Norton 2003 slow response after live update

Norton 2003 slow response after live update
I just had a live update for Norton 2003 (1/7/2004) and now Microsoft Word is extremely slow in opening. Run Virus Scan is showing in the lower left corner of the screen. Eventually it will open, but any advice on how to fix this response problem? Five other computers all started doing this...- bandaloo
