I just found out something that might help solve this mystery.
I thought that it may be an audio/video problem at first due to music skipping when played in WMP. I just tried to play a song, and although it skipped for the first 10-15 seconds it eventually (buffered?) reached the point were it...
I did a general Fujitsu diagnostic on my HD. Made sure the diag was compatible with my model #. It didn't even find a hard drive to run the diag on. and I tried it twice.
and i think we can rule out HDD damage because it has happened before but was temporarily fixed via a windows reinstall...
Thanks for the help.
I'll check that stuff when i get home, i'm at work right now.
I know about msconfig and i have already disabled anything that isn't necessary. But the process of elimination method you suggested won't hurt to try.
I forgot to mention that the last clean reinstall of...
XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 2
HP DV 5000z
AMD Turion 64 Mobile Tecnology ML-34
1.79Ghz 512MB Ram
FujitsuMHV2040AT Hard Drive
I don't really know how to find anything else.
I've had this problem 3-4 times now and fixed it with a clean reinstall of windows.
I think it's a hardware problem. It comes randomly as far as i can tell, i haven't installed anything recently. I just booted it up one day and it the problems started.
Here's what's happening:
-Boot time takes...
hmmm yeah thanks guys, that's useful info for sure.
i think i'll call HP and let em know that i'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem and that i'm dissapointed and would like to send it in for repairs. i didn't get the extended warranty or anything but i'm sure everything is still covered for a...
Alright, I just bought a HP Pavilion dv5000z notebook and it was working fine until recently. All of a sudden it started functioning very glitchy and would freeze up for 10-20 seconds at a time when multitasking. also it took 10-15 mins to boot up.
I went through allllll the anti-virus/malware...
ahh ok. i'm just using it as an extra storage spot for games etc and a backup for my music, so i don't have to take up half of the internal with all my music etc.
i'm not too worried about uber-securing my stuff, i got all my music already on my ipod and games on disks.
as for my machine. i'm...
haha @ stduc
and thx, jim i'll do that too, sounds like a good idea.
and i'm officially clean now, haven't had any popups for at all since my last reboot after my final ewido and ad-aware scans. i'm definately gonna use crap cleaner, and go thru myself and try to delete some unused junk...
ok, i ran ewido in safe mode and it found nearly 200 problems. i got my processor speed back, it now idles at 0-10% which is good because that was my biggest concern. i stilllll get an occasional popup, but i'm gonna do some registry fixes and more malware scans and hopefully knock that out...
as for the ewido, when i run the sys scan it does like a constant refresh thing, where the program kinda flashes like it's as if a popup is tryin to use ewido to show itself. the scan will start but stop within a few seconds.

ok, i've been doin most of these, and still no luck. it also seems like everytime i run an adware check, i get new results. without even visiting any websites or downloading anything. also my antivir comes up with new viruses every few hours. if i try to delete the viruses, they will be detected...
damn thanks, guys!!
seroiusly i have like a billion tools now to use against this. and it seems like malware completely, but i've used so many things to fight it with no success. i'll definately use some of the sources you provided.
thx especially to lenney for the kindness. it's amazing that...
alright, i've done tooooonnnnssss of searches on this and scans and blah blah, so i don't think there is a super simple answer to this.
i hope, however, that my two problems are connected.
first i get popups. they come through ie which i don't use, even when it's closed. i use firefox. or they...
The other day I removed some adware which seems to have stopped the crashes, and it sounds like the dll that's missing isn't that important, so i will leave it alone for now, bacause i might mess up something important if i try replacing it. thanks a lot for the help i really appreciate it!!
when windows starts, i get i window that says "A required .DLL file, LIBEXPAT.DLL, was not found." what can i do to fix it, or get the window to stop coming up if it needn't be fixed?
