BSOD on fresh install of Win2k and WinXP- Mobo problem?

Addy, Yep, that's what I thought too about the RAM running fine.. The RAM was indeed one of the components I did change- but still the same thing. Although the problem is sorted - the CPU isn't working at it's optimum speed of course.

BSOD on fresh install of Win2k and WinXP- Mobo problem?

Hi all, Yeah, sorry for the lack of spec and specific error messages. Having worked on this problem yesterday and today, I thought of changing the CPU clock mulitpler. It was set to 133Mhz which I changed to 100MHz (via jumper on mobo). The board make/model is a Gigabyte GA-DX7E (AMD)...

BSOD on fresh install of Win2k and WinXP- Mobo problem?

Hi all, This one has me baffled... I'm trying to re-install Win XP on a custom built PC; reason being that the owner kept seeing the BSOD. Anyway so I thought id totally format the hard drive and re-install XP but probably about 5mins into the setup I get the BSOD error. I have tried many...

Configure XP wireless setting via script?

Ok- group policy is fine- but can I use it from a Windows 2000 Server? If so how? Thanks.

Configure XP wireless setting via script?

Sorry I forget to mention that the operating system is of course Windows XP with Service Pack 1 and NOT 2. I understand that SP 2 has a wireless setup wizard which allows one to do this. Can this be used as a stand alone program on SP 1?

Configure XP wireless setting via script?

Hi all, I was wondering if it was possible to script all the necessary settings to configure a wireless card using XP's configuration window? I need to set things like the SSID, network encryption key etc. I have about 40 odd laptops/PCs to configure. Thanks.

Single CAT5 cable for data and VGA signal?

Wireless would be too slow for anything these computers need to do- i've tried it. I have considered IP KVM devices but the best way of course would be to try things out to be sure. skip555- if it were possible to do this (in this situation) then the post would be non-existant (!) Thanks for...

Single CAT5 cable for data and VGA signal?

jlshelton, That's what I read on a description of a particular (lost the link now!)- but I'm no expert on cables, so I thought I'd throw out the question to you guys. Of course ideally, I would run each signal on it's own cable but the network cabling has been done a long time ago with only...

Single CAT5 cable for data and VGA signal?

Oh ok- thanks to the both of you. I haven't purchased any particular product yet; I have seen a few that might do the job.

Single CAT5 cable for data and VGA signal?

Hi all, Just wanted to know if it would be ok to have both 'normal' network data and a video signal (VGA-via convertor) on the same cable (2 port hub or equivalent on each end)? Do these things run on different pairs? Thanks.

    Windows Volume License Question

Presumably you want to use ghosting/imaging software on workstations that have individual license keys? I had the same problem at one of our sites. I phoned up Microsoft and they said: if the individual license keys are within 90 days (or there abouts)- then you can 'convert' to a volume...

    Mandatory Profile Question

I believe the 'correct' way to do this is as follows: 1) You already have the UNC \\servername\mandatory- leave that as it is. 2) When it comes to specifying the path in the 'Copy profile to' field, add the path "\\servername\mandatory\folder_name_of_your_choice" 3) What this will do is...

    Lexmark Syndrome

I've tried in all modes- of course the lines are less apparent in best mode but they are still there. It still shouldn't cause lines in what ever mode- just more 'specky' in say draft mode. The common cause of this problem seems to be clogged print heads on the cartridge- but I still get the...

    Lexmark Syndrome

Cultoflon, It's not black lines- just 'faded' white horizontal lines all the way down the page. I actually stripped the printer to clean everything- wasn't really dirty anyway. This made no difference. It's not even cost-effective to get a professional to diagnose the problem. But a shame to...

    Lexmark Syndrome

I've had problems with 3 Lexmark printers- z53 and two X73s. I have only ever used Lexmark original cartridges. All 3 printers caused horizontal line streaking- nothing to do with cleaning. The Z53 I had to just bin. I then purchase the X73 (all in one)- worked fine for a few months and the...

    USB hard drives.

I've been using the 2.5" HD enclosures for a while now and none require external power. The ones I have came with a '2-1' USB cable - you would plug in both the USB cables in to the PC/laptop to provide additional power to HD if needed (there are different power requirements (well two that I...
