No, connectivity is fine and I can ping everything...Just thought it was a little strange to not get the .1 default gateway...
So I shouldn't be worried about this?
Thanks for the fast response
I setup a RAS server on a 2003 box and gave it a scope of a few ip addresses. Everything is working fine and clients can dial in fine but their ip address is the same as their default gateway and their subnet mask is 255.255.255.255...
Is this normal? Their IP info looks like below:

Hi all! I setup a new dial in server on Windows 2003 using Windows authentication. It works fine but I mistyped my password to make security/authentication is working and sometimes I get a popup screen saying authentication failed and for me to retype my password (Which is what I want) and...
I do understand the concept. Wording was giving me some trouble.
Just can't figure out why it won't work for me. All I wanted to do was create an account lockout for all the machines but somehow keep from locking out our domain admins because if an accout lockout is in place, some nifty...
Somebody mentioned above to NOT MESS WITH THE DEFAULT DOMAIN POLICY! But if I am trying to set security like passwords/account lockout, don't I have to use this default policy that was already created?
Sorry, trying to understand this...
Here's what I did:
I created a new Group Policy at the Domain Level and called it Domain Security Policy. In that policy I changed the account lockout to 5 attempts and that the admin would have to reset it. Authenticated users is checked and it appears to...
Little confused...Isn't the Domain Security Policy (Start, Administrative Tools, Domain Security Policy) the same thing as the Default Domain Policy that is already at the domain level by default? The one that everybody has said not to use???
Also someone said there can only be one domain...
So you're saying that if I create a GP and place it at the domain level, I cannot create another OU and block inheritance on that domain level OU?
I was thinking about creating a domain level GP for account lockout and then creating another OU for domain admins their computers and blocking...
So is it fair to say that if I modify the computer settings of a group policy, I have to apply that policy to an OU that has computers? I can't apply computer settings group policies to a user can I?
Also, the default domain policy and default domain controller sercurity policy shortcuts in...
Default Domain Policy is actually not being applied to authenticated users...Is that what you meant by "unchecking the box doesn't reset the setting on those clients?"
Just trying to figure out what's going on and how it's supposed to work.
If I make changes to the Computer configuration of...
Koonan, you mention that if you create a GPO and apply it to an OU, then only the "local" users are affected???
Well, that's exactly what I did and users are logging into the domain, not locally. We tested this and accounts are being locked out after 3 attempts like the GPO we created stated...
I need some clarification about this...
We currently have Two user OU's and One computer OU.
Users1
Users2
Computers
I applied an account lockout to the computer's OU since it is a computer based policy and it works. Problem is that since it is a computer based policy, I can't exclude the...
Windows authentication was checked and so was the anonymous access...This website won't be accessed from the internet..Only internally.
It might be an issue with IE, but I've got another test laptop that is not a member of the domain and the same thing is happening there...Interesting enough...
Hi all!
A non-domain user needs to access our intranet...What I have done is created a user account on our domain so that when he hits a certain part of the intranet, he will get prompted for user name/password and he can put in the domain credentials we have supplied him.
The problem is that...
I looked at the above Microsoft article and followed the steps...Don't see any reference to this server in ndtsutil, adsiedit or DNS. Again, error only happening on one server...Not the other 3 DC's I have.
I demoted a DC a few days ago and am now getting an error:
Active Directory failed to construct a mutual authentication service principal name (SPN) for the following domain controller.
Domain controller:
c709ad6b-5222-450e-ba36-7c69be4f7d3a._msdcs.chemspec.com
The call was denied...
