Aquias - Um, I hope you don't go putting that on your CV! I don't think it reads quite as you intend it.

How NOT to motivate your staff

I knew exactly what Leslie meant..... they could go through **at the same time** in which case she would only get the 10% not the 1.75%. Hey if it's anything like here they will, best case scenario, give the 10% then refuse to give the 1.75% because "but you just got a 10% rise!

Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People is a long-standing classic for good reason.

Too over the hill to "BREAK INTO" the IT field?

    1) You have 3 months experience, it's a start. 2) Remember you only need **one** person to give you a chance to get some more experience. Go for it, the IT industry needs more people like you - you will be new enough to it to be enthusiastic. Changing careers is a postive decision for you...

    Grammar Test - Page 2

Cheers E-Squared, looks a lot more dynamic and representative than the parsing I remember.

    Grammar Test - Page 2

What is sentence diagramming? Is it the same as parsing sentences... which we used to do ad nauseum in my grammar school :-(

    Spelling of Tracy

Following from Tracy's point about spelling of his name in the Pet Peeves thread, this site http://babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/ (go to Name Voyager, which needs Java, and play!) suggests that Tracy (with no "e")is more popular as a girl's name than a boys. As is Tracey with an e. My...

    English in the UK

asrisk, it's odd how one's ear gets used to anything, I don't even wince when I hear "where's it to?" any more. My problem is I am such a copier I can't help but pick up these Bristolian expresssions. Another one I catch myself doing is not making subject and verb match, e.g. "the reasons...

    Pet Peeve

Tracy - my, my, fancy you being male. I'd always pictured you as a woman after my own heart, what with your wonderful signature. My best female friend is called Tracy spelt without an e so I have passed that information from you mum on to her! Francis and Tracy - similar gripes, but...

    English in the UK

Rosie, "daps" also in use in my adopted city of Bristol (very near South Wales where you grew up of course) The Bristolian expression that gets me every time is "lamp" for light-bulb. I had an electrician fitting the ceiling mounted light thingy and he asked me for "have you got the lamp?"...

CIW master Designer certification , worth it?

Kedge, your overall approach and attitude are spot on; it's a good plan to try to get certs that will both solidify and extend your current knowledge. I can't comment on the CIW Master Designer certificate because I haven't heard of it, but then web-site design is not my field. All the best...

    Fewer 'carbs'

OOoh I was just referring the the first part of TTF's message... I didn't know what "mu" meant so just ignored that bit :-)
  16. LesleyW

    Fewer 'carbs'

I disagree with ESquared here and think that TTF is cleverly showing correct usage. "I can have 1 to many carbs" ....> I can eat as many different types of carbohydrates "as long as carbohydrates weight will not exceed 23 gramms" ..> as long as the total weight of all those carbs is not more...

    Math or Maths?

Just to add confusion to the Maths/Math debate, the Northern Irish pronounce Maths "Mas" with a long a. :-)

    Anagram challenge

Noooooooo!! is my immediate response. But, on reflexion.. Spanish word for year - año. "ñ" is a different letter than "n" so any anagram can use ñ but not n. However "trabajó"... the acute on the o is just for emphasis so you could use or not use the acute as desired. Similarly if you add...
