"Start" button and Taskbar missing
All domain users (with exception of new ones created to troubleshoot this problem) are missing the entire Taskbar and Start button. I believe this is not a case of having hidden the taskbar, because I have tried to unhide it without success. Also the Windows key has no effect, will not activate...- ddaddy

Can't reach (telnet) fax server for remote admin
Here's the deal. I have a fax server on the network. it is unix, it runs tcp/ip and has a static IP address. I have made it available in the firewall config - all ports from any address. I can't ping it from outside our network, though it is reachable by ping and telnet from inside. I can get to...- ddaddy

Paulwood et al, First I can believe the timeliness of this thread.Thankyou. I was just having the problem for the second time (different machines) and only this time recognized the scope of the problem. Anyway I did try the solution statrting with "Remove ShellIconCache" and it worked...- ddaddy

ryeman, As I am in roughly an equivalent position careerwise I am curious as to the final solution. My opinion is option 3. Any administration will be dicey at first until all users are up to speed and you have worked out all the kinks. Win 3.11 is useable and familiar to the group. Remember it...- ddaddy
