instead of New package, use new package from definition and point sms to the ipf file. It is the old package definition file type from sms 1.x, but 2.0 should recognize it.
SMS 2003 incorporates the Background Intelligent Transfer Service that windows automatic updates uses. In conjunction with the new distribution/management points, you should be able to do the same without this add-on. If you can, I would upgrade to sms 2003 and use that.
My $0.02:
Get as much hd space as you can. When your boss wants you to start deploying packages and then software installs, that 50 gig will get small quickly.
You also need to plan space for your sql database and logs.
Assuming you are using a domain account for SMS, make sure it is listed in the security section of the SQL Server Enterprise Manager. Also make sure the sms connection account as server access=permit and default database=master.
I would first go to the clients and add the "SMS Client Deinstall = true" key to the registry. Bounce the sms client service and then wait about 5 mintues for it to uninstall the client. Once that is done, go in and clean the NAL and the SMS sections out of the registry.
