Remove PDC and add a member server to another domain

You are correct in saying they are both server2000 servers. I have tried using dcpromo and I get the message that 'failed finding suitable domain controller for the domain, the specified domain either does not exist or cannot be contacted' I can ping the other domain controller by name and by...

    Sites and DNS

Installed new network, we have 2 campus's so we have a server in each campus. Best practises for DNS in this case? We are connected via a 3mb telstra megalink. Do I set up a DNS in each site or user forwarders? No time to read up on it, so thought one of you lovely people might give me some tips

GPO - computer versus user settings

Our computers folder is directly under the domain, the OU's are set to divide year levels and campus's, can I 'move' the computers folder to under the campus OU? I am a bit scared to try as we are so short of time and I don't want to destroy anything.

    Copying Server 2003 Group Policies

Thanks David for that info, ok then we have tried to do just what you said, 'link the gpo to another ou' it seems to have done it ok and it appears but when you login as a user in the 'new' ou the policy does not apply? Sorry to be a pain but I am not understanding this very well. Chris

GPO - computer versus user settings

If you apply to computer, wouldn't you use the GPO on the group of computers that you want to apply it to? This policy I am setting up now is for an OU for year 12 students, in other words users. Do computer based policies work when applying to an OU of users?

GPO - computer versus user settings

Can anyone explain which I should be using? Or a book on the subject? There are so many settings and so many levels I am at a loss to know which to use! We want to apply polices to users but the policy needs to address computer settings such as background, prevent changes to all sorts of...

    GPO - refresh desktop background

Anyone know how to do this, we are using active desktop with a particular background for different users (so we can see at a glance if a student or teacher is logged in.) This background come through ok sometimes but others only a small part appears at the top and the rest is black, is there a...

Huh? We are using roaming profiles with no local cache so I will not find documents and setting\username as this is not there with a roaming profile and no cache. I know that a profile is more than icons and desktop, I am not sure is I am reading your answer right or not? Chris

    Copying Server 2003 Group Policies

David We are using server 2003, we create the group policy in the OU that we want it to apply to, if we right click the OU we have under properties an option for Group Policy, this is where we said 'new' and then edited the policy as to how we wanted it. We now want to apply this policy to...

Very slow to login using roaming profile. We are a college and need roaming profiles as the users 'roam', anyone got any idea's? We don't want to keep a cached copy on the local computer as we have found this slows the system down too when there gets to be a few on there. We plan to make the...
