Hijacker - Is it gone?
A few weeks ago I started having problems. Couldn't get to google.com. Here are the basic steps I took that lead me to where I am now. This is on XP will all critical updates. 1) I knew google was still there but I just wasn't finding it. I pinged google.com just to see what IP I'd get for...- BGXP

Thank you bcastner! I don't know why or how, but XP was not using the hosts file. Some sort of trojan hijacker had done something to cause it to use one it had place in the windows/help folder. It had hijacked a bunch of URLs and given them the IP of 207.44.220.30 to include google.com...
