    Pick highest cell number between 5 cells for Excel 97

    In Excel spreedsheet, I have 5 cells(a1-a5) containing various numbers, In the A6 cell, I want to pick the highest number from cells 1-5. In the A7 cell, I want to pick lowest number between cells 1-5. Any suggestions on this formula would be appreciated.
