I'm in the same situation. I find it hard to believe that MS has never seen fit to give admins the ability to force automatic logoff from Windows after X minutes of inactivity or at a certain time. I understand that people would find it irritating if they lost unsaved documents, but I'm...
I wish I had a solution, instead of just the same problem. But maybe sharing information can help us eliminate factors that our configurations don't have in common...Is yours acting as both DC and Exchange server? Is it the only server in your forest? Are you using Exchange 2003? Is your...
I've never had to manually set the MTU on the card. I just leave it at whatever the default is and make any necessary changes (usually to allow for VPN overhead) on the router. Maybe you have some reason for wanting to do it that's over my head, though.. You may be able to set it through the...
Wow! Thank you thank you thank you! Limiting clients to TCP/IP via the registry saved me so much aggravation and my client a bunch of money in bandwidth. Thanks for taking to time to post.
I've also found that despite the obnoxious nature of M$ wizards, the network setup wizard has been helpful in connecting XP boxes to 2003. Don't use it on any system with multiple network connections, though or it will bridge them. And you'll need to turn file sharing off afterward.

Does the SID end in 547 by any chance? If so, it's the Power Users group..don't know why, but 2003 seems to be incapable of dealing with the Power users group. Otherwise, it's probably an account that was added to the security and then subsequently deleted.
What are the event IDs and sources for the errors? The first place I generally go to research events is eventid.net (they have a search function) but those sound familiar..like I've seen them somewhere before. Possible replication problem?
Installing win98 over an existing version usually results in a screwy install anyway. To re-install win 98 without losing software you need to re-enumerate. To do that, follow these steps:
1. make a backup !
2. Delete the following reg keys in this exact order...
Before you get nutty with the screwdriver, it's probably worth the minimal effort to check whether it's a hard drive password as opposed to a BIOS password. The ATA specs include two passwords for the hard drive. The master password, which is not configurable by the end user, defaults to 32...
We did change all of the admin passwords (we had to reset the routers and a number of the systems to defaults to remove unknown admin pwds.) They didn't have any VPN before (they just had everything connected to NAT routers, and the exchange server open to internet traffic.) We have pretty...
A new client is having some trouble with their previous tech still messing with their system. We found entries in several of the lmhosts files on their workstations that point to his company's domain (two of his servers and two entries for his domain.) Then we noticed that their email address...
