We use Solarwinds Orion, check out the live demo here: http://npmv7.solarwinds.net/Login.asp it is web based and you can view individual systems, routers, switches..etc...pretty much anything that is snmp enabled. The snmp part could be a downside for you...but then again maybe not. It has tons...

We use netoptics taps for our sniffing. I would love to unplug devices...but I think our 200+ users wouldn't have as much fun as I would... :-)

All our switches are 3com...I have also seen the 3434343434 address as you described. Our switches also employ flow control which...
This one has been driving me crazy. Hopefully someone else has experienced this before. While capturing all traffic(i.e...default filter)I noticed a symptom on the DLC layer within the expert. "DLC Source Address Multicast" the mac address reported is 434343434343. I built a monitor filter...
With the expert reporting "too many retransmissions" and "Non responsive host" this to me sounds hardware related. I would first look at cpu utilization and the amount of ram avaliable. This can account for your errors (network congestion can account for this as well, but I always look at the...
I have solved the problem, I setup another smtp virtual server at a higher port number and had our field offices change their outgoing smtp in Outlook to use the new port number. This has been sucessfully everytime. Of course we are still using port 25, but the higher number is for our field...
Hi,
For about a month now, more and more users have been complaing about their inability to send email to our exchange server through their local isp. Downloading via pop3 has never been a problem. Originally we were having them relay through their isp to our mail server for authentication...
Our company recently purchased a second T1 line, we are utilizing bgp for fail-over purposes. Everything is fine until I started thinking about our public dns servers. I can setup round-robin for load distribution, but if one of our T1 lines go down, fifty percent (not exact just rounding) of...
This is what I have in my 501. Hope it helps...

Thanks so much for offering your help, but I figured it out. I had a "senior moment" while initially configuring our pix. If you know what I mean... :-)
Greetings
My company has decided to host their own public dns servers, no big deal I thought, so I configured/hardened the servers and set them up in our 515E. When I went to test the outside to dmz connectivity, it did not work. (I pointed my home pc dns settings to the servers ip.) I...

I am currently learning the PIX firewall myself...I must recommend the book I am currently reading to you. It is "Cisco Security Specialist’s Guide to PIX Firewall" from Syngress Publishing http://www.syngress.com/catalog/sg_main.cfm?pid=2350. You may find it at a better price...
Thanks for the quick responses, unfortunately our network is mostly hubs (10mb weee)and I am sure that this is probably the primary cause of all the broadcasts. We are in the process of obtain new switches and I will look at implementing some lan routers. Thanks again
I am trying to find out how to reduce the number of broadcasting nodes on our network. Out of 400 pc's, about 50-60 of them are constantly broadcasting and I have been told that this can greatly reduce network performance. I read somewhere about increasing the ARP aging time to compensate for...
Nope, there is no minimum length, I have made patch cables as short as 3 inchs and they worked just fine. Just stick to whatever standard you are using and your boat should float.

I am unaware of any "distance taught" cabling courses...but, I can recommend an excellent book I picked up about two weeks ago. The title is: "CABLING The complete guide to network wiring" by David Groth, Jim McBee, and David Barnett. The publisher is SYBEX...
I would like to know if any of HP's or Linksys's external print servers will work with Linux? Or am I better off setting up Linux as my printserver
Thanks!!
Kevbri, are you wondering as to whether or not the "braided" (thats what I call it) will punch in okay? If this is what you are wondering, I would have to say that you will just have to try it out.
whybnormal, your kidding! would that be comparable to me spraying my soundcard's...
