No internet is working on this machine. Forgot to mention that the ipconfig /all replies that it cannot access the information.
No CD means an antivirus program cannot easily be ported into this machine.
Two clients, similar symptoms. Both machines were unprotected by anti-virus.
WinME:
system won't boot up properly anymore. New file on C drive called May17 and I think that's been identified as a problem. System cannot see CD Drive, although it shows up on BIOS startup. Drive cannot be...
Indeed it did. I ended up putting the servers own IP address for the DNS instead of 127.0.0.1 because it *looked* like it wouldn't accept it. I presume 127.0.0.1 is handier if dhcp is operating and no one knows the IP address from day to day.
The one XP workstation. What brought this on was...

I found forwarding, and popped in the dns addresses. thank you. I tried to put the 127.0.0.1 as the dns in the tcpip properties but it won't accept it saying it's a loopback address. Is it somewhere else I'm supposed to put that? In the meantime, I put the servers own address...
I've seen the solution in here before but just cannot find it. I have several clients that are running Win2K PDC, and when we add an XP workstation, logging in is very slow.
The solution has to do with setting up DNS correctly. I need step by step instructions, plus instructions at where...

Is there a checklist on setting this up for applications?
Regarding licenses... I don't know. Each...
We're dealing with a small church where a half dozen people will connect via terminal services. Presently no one but administrator could connect to terminal server, so I put them all in the system operators group (a bad idea I'm thinking) and they can now log in.
However they can even reboot...
Sounds like you have a virus that disabled norton. Restart in safe mode, run Norton. Typically, when I see things like you describe, it's a virus and Symantec has specific removal tools for each one. Trouble is, you need to identify the virus first.
If you have Internet, try...
Picture this: two Win98 computers with a broadband router. The two computers share files, and have the same version of Office 2000 on them. One computer has a Sharp copier/fax/printer on it, and works fine.
The other computer can print to the Sharp (via workgroup share) fine from "test...
I found it under desktop, properties, effects, desktop icons... and found the three had been changed to generic icons. chose each, click default and it's all perfect now.
thanks
