This is typical of the Fujitsu MPG failures, the drive spins up, but fails to be recognised by BIOS. An impurity in a chip on the controller board causes this and the data can be recovered without swapping controller board or opening the drive in most cases.
The Fujitsu failures are well known and the data is able to be recovered in most cases, but not by swapping the controller board. I have been doing these recoveries with a very high success rate since 2002. Visit www.ptech.co.nz/recovery if you are interested.
