I have to agree with Trvlace on this one. This is a pretty lame security solution. I would say that since the info is out on the net, then every Aloha owner deserves to know they are at such high risk. Scary.
CC Processors vary widely regionally. Make sure you check the contract terms closely. Some processors are worse than cell phone service providers with the contract lock-downs.
You should be set up to print the full CC number on the merchant copy, and the customer copy should be masked. That way you have a copy of the number with the cashouts.
The information IS maintained in Squirrel for a period of time (10-14 days) and can usually be recovered by the Squirrel...
Squirrel doens't support credit card masking prior to version 3.5, which requires a PCI Rocketport card (Comtrol.com) in place of the ISA Octal card.
If someone has "developed" a workaround, I'd be wary. Your POS is usually pretty critical to your business. Trusting your finances to such...
And I still stand by my previous post "Don't know how reliable XP is with 3.5." It's like taking the engine out of a Model T and putting it into a 2004 Ferrari (ok, maybe a 2002 Chrysler).
Best bet, if you're starting at a new site and don't want to drop the money into terminals...get set up...
Don't know how reliable XP is with 3.5....not supported or even tested at squirrel I believe. Squirrel 3.5 standardly runs on NT. Squirrel 4.0 was recently approved to work on XP, and of course the new graphical version works great on XP.

Just a minor correction. For the printers the CAT5 is terminated to the same standard, but the cable connecting that termination to the printer is not a standard patch cable, and is not CAT5. It uses a 6-pin termination on the printer end, and a modified 8-pin termination on the other.
But...
I'm about 99% sure that you are correct...it's probably jumpered to 422 instead of 232. If you're brave and want to pop the terminal open, drop me an email and I can help you set the jumpers correctly.
Squirrel does keep track of transfers. It depends on which version of Squirrel you're using (Classic or Graphical).
I'm not exactly sure how it's done with Classic, but in Graphical (1.x) you go into "Reports" ..."Online Reports"..."Transfers" Enter in the...
The complaints against Squirrel all seem to be user-focused. Too many touches?? How about <<BUD>> <<BUD>> <<SETTLE>> and the drawer pops?? No screens...3 taps and I'm in and out. And magic-settle is a god-send! Squirrel sped up our bar service 300%!
Complaints about Squirrel seem to...
We've actually been up and running on Squirrel for just over a year now and things are still running smoothly. We have a great local vendor...maybe that's the problem others are having. Our setup/installation went ok, but since then we've had to place 2 phone calls for help, and that was just...
