Win2003 Server cannot see network anymore

I started with all of the basics I could think of, including changing cables. I'll try the pathping tomorrow and see what it tells me. The ipconfig/all display indicated the correct IP address, DNS Server and default gateway. But the ipconfig/renew initially failed to get a new IP address...

Win2003 Server cannot see network anymore

It wasn't actually one of the two network adapters that was showing Unavailable. They were both enabled (or disabled when I disabled them). When I had first completed the 2003 installation, the first connection worked correctly. Sometime later, after restarting, it stopped being able to see...

Win2003 Server cannot see network anymore

I realize that I'm talking myself through the problem, but maybe it will help someone else later. I've swapped over to the second NIC and all is happy again. The router/DHCP assigned an IP address, I've since made it a reservation, everything can see everything else and I'm back to where I was...

Win2003 Server cannot see network anymore

Some more info in trying to narrow down the problem: I altered the DNS Servers on one of the domain PCs to be the ISP's, and ran diagnostics. Everything passes. However, it is not possible to ping the win2003 server on the domain. I can still ping the other domain devices, including printer...

Win2003 Server cannot see network anymore

A bit more information: In the TCP/IP properties of the LAN connection in Network Connections, the firewall is disabled and the TCP/IP Filtering is disabled. TCP, UDP and IP settings are set to Permit All.

Win2003 Server cannot see network anymore

I haven't installed anything but Win 2003 Standard Edition (evaluation edition, if it makes any difference). If there is firewall software within Win2003 then I may have activated it without knowing, but don't know where to look to find out. As for TCP/IP filtering, do you mean the Inbound and...

Win2003 Server cannot see network anymore

I installed my first Win 2003 Server yesterday and all was perfect. Set up the DNS (set the preferred DNS for the server to itself, then forwarded to ISP DNS Servers), created a local domain and setup AD. Then, I created new users in the domain, added two PCs, setup RAS and VPN. The VPN client...

    VPN Router Recommendation

OK, that confirms options 1 and 2 are the better ones. Do I lose any functionality by setting up port-forwarding in the existing non-VPN router, compared to upgrading to a VPN router? Is the only difference that the VPN router does it automatically so I don't have to define and enable the...

    VPN Router Recommendation

We have a small office network consisting of: Speedstream 5100 DSL Modem Netgear RP614v2 4-port Router Netgear 24-port Switch 5 PCs (3 XP Pro, 2 XP Home) We will soon be introducing a Win 2003 Server as well as VPN to the network. The VPN is required for users working from home (at...

    Small Office LAN with DSL

Hey, no problem. How would you know?! [wink]

    Small Office LAN with DSL

If it makes any difference, I got a router and had the network up and running in about 15 minutes. Couldn't have been easier. And I really wouldn't want to manually track the addresses. There are only 4 PCs now, but this will be expanding. Give me automated over manual any day. All printer...

    Small Office LAN with DSL

That's up there with finding out the power is not turned on! I confirmed with SBC that in fact the 5100 is only a bridge and not a router. The technician told me that it cannot be set to be a router and they recommend to anyone needing to network with more than one PC connected to purchase a...

    Small Office LAN with DSL

To check if changing cables made a difference, I went to another office and used one of the other PCs LAN points and used that in the previous step, so it used different cables from my laptop all the way to the different netgear port. I figured that if that worked ok, then my original cabling...

    Small Office LAN with DSL

I checked on device manager and re-installed the network card driver - no change. I used another port - no change. I ran the WinsockFix - no obvious change. I re-ran the network wizard, and the LAN connection was assigned IP address 169.254.x.x again (automatic private address assigned by...

    Small Office LAN with DSL

After reading through some of the threads, I'm hesitant to write as I think I'm starting from a very basic level compared to everyone else. But here goes nothing... I need to organize a small office network (4 PCs, 2 with XP Home, 2 with XP Pro) to share files/printers and internet connection...
