thanks for the pointers, looks like i have some detective work to do!
i especially like the idea of using a compare tool that will accurately find the difference between the models. with all the differences identified we can determine which ones need to applied to the "good" copy and redirect...
thanks so much for the reply!
it's not the package itself i'm trying to locate but the framework that the package was created in.
Unfortunately we have 3 copies of a framework (different folders/locations, possibly more) that all have a package named "aircraft". i have found some differences...
Does anyone know if there is a way to find the file location of the framework for a published package?
i've found that we have a couple of copies of the same framework with the same package names and apparently this specific package that is published is not coming from what should be the "good"...
i am certainy no authority, but we are running 8.3 as well and just upgraded our content store from 2000 to 2005, so i would say yes.
Also, in the configuration manager for Cognos 8.3, when you put your cursor in the value to enter your content store's database server and port number, the...
We are in the process of upgrading our SQL Server Databases to 2005, so there are actually two instances of the databases on our development server - one 2000 and the other 2005. They have copied our development content store from 2000 to 2005 and detached the 2000 version.
We have entered...
actually, i've been called off the hunt and we've been directed to rewrite the framework that contains the data provider and handles the connectivity using the oracle oracle provider instead of the microsoft oracle provider. not sure this is going to help, but off we go!
regardless, my...
Thanks so much for your interest in this.
I agree 100%, there's definetly a coding bug. unfortunately, doing what it takes to fix the app is not going to get it up and running anytime soon. this application is such a mess that we've grown leary of making any changes to it as it's probably a...
thanks, that will help with our error handling, but doesn't sound like it will help with the session variables being dropped or whatever is causing the errors to be triggered.
Any idea of how the differences between a Windows 2003 server and a Windows 2008 server that hosting an oracle...
Hi Turkbear - we have oracle 10g running across the board. connectivity has been verified on the app server as well as all other workstations requiring access to the data. Regardless, the the application returns data fine, at least until it decides to take a dirt-nap.
ca8msm is right i'm...
Please forgive the lengthy post, but this really is the short version – honest...
A couple of weeks ago we moved our oracle databases from a Windows 2003 server to a Windows 2008 server and upgraded them from 32 bit processing to 64 bit processing. The transition has been perfect with all our...

good morning all!
Does anyone know if there is a way to publish a package and allow users to run the report against the package, yet hide the package itself so that end-users with query studio cannot see or use that package on their own?
This is a on going debate in our office this week...
thanks for your effort, i'll hope to hear back from you!
meanwhile, i'll post back as well if i come across the answer myself.
Of course that's not to say someone else with the solution isn't welcomed to participate!
Becky,

Thanks Tom,
i too thought i had found it once before as a property when i was looking for something else. when i couldn't find it last week, i assumed that i had just confused it with what i knew of Excel. glad to hear that someone else has seen it as well :)
If you do find it in 8 would you...
oh, i'm sorry, i'm using Cognos Report Studio 1.1
we are trying to keep our end users from having to manipulate reports and forms themselves in order to be able to use them, so having them export to Excel to accomplish this really isn't an option in this case.

Good morning!
i did search and found an old entry that got no response, so i'm going to ask again.
Is it possible to change the angle or orientation of the text in a column, or more specifically a column header? This is possible in Excel and is referred to as the Text Orientation and is set...
Is there a way to allow the end-user to choose the sort column? I'm sure it's very common to create a list report that might be used for several purposes, and as in my case with employees, being able to sort by ID or Name or Supervisor at the end-users descretion would certainly make for a more...
Yes, i've looked for the ".ldb"'s, none there.
I've checked out the article you mentioned, and though the repair doesn't apply because i'm using 2003, does the "cause" still apply? i'm thinking no since there are no long values in any of my table, but i'll take any insight you may have...
Thanks VBSlammer for checking out my post.
i just tried what you suggested and i get the same error.
I think the first thing it does is authenticate me to Oracle for the tables i have linked as i always have to log in before my form comes up. But this error comes up before it even gets to...
