Yup it didn't seem to like it - I have tried as primary master and tried to put windows on it - the setup would not complete with NTLDR missing - I copied it over from the windows cd and then it said that hal.dll was missing. Gave up on that one after fixing its mbr and scanning using every...
Hi @ all
Running athlon 1700 with geforce 6800, 756 ram and 2 80gb hdd. Decided to upgrade to a 300gb drive for storage - bought it without realising the lba problems etc but worked around it. My setup is now
primary: 10gb partion drive 1
70 gb partition drive 1
80gb drive 2
this was working...
so its not looking good really is it. Obviously the original HDD had the startup bios on it in a hidden partition and without it I am a bit stuffed.
How would I go about finding the hidden partition, as my plan of attack at the moment is to disconnect the cd drive and hook up the new drive as a...
I am afraid I have no idea. the pc is a p66 and the last HDD was 750MB. its very old. probably looking at around '96. It has a separate card for the IDE devices . . .
Cdog, had a look and yeah the HDD is the only device on that cable, there is a cd on the other which is recognised. I'll have a...
hmmm had a bit of a brainwave. What if I put the HDD into another computer like I said, but only partitioned a 2 gig area and installed win 98 on that. What are the chances the old bios would recognise that?
well no joy as yet. I have downloaded all the tools from seagate but they dont appear to do much. They install a few files on my C drive (it can get the make and serial right so it must be detecting it), then ends telling me my RAM drive is C. Thanks seagate . . .
While its doing its 'thing' it...
Hi all, basically I am trying to install a 10.2GB seagate HDD onto a very old compaq prolinea 575 series computer. On startup I get Disk Error 1790, but when I reboot from a 98 startup floppy I can see the drive, although its only a virtual RAM drive. Fdisk 'could not access fixed disk' so I...
ok this is weird. If I type in googles ip address both in the command prompt and the address bar I get all the correct info. I can access google through using its ip address, and the cmd prompt told me that ip address should direct me to google . . .
What do those commands do JK?
Im a little wary because my DNS servers are automatically configured from my ISP. Would it mess up my connection to input the ones I received with my Windows cd?
ok opened them up and no mention of google. In fact it said it was a sample file, if this means anything.
If I type the google address into the web bar it now tells me 'there is no website configured at this address'. Somehow its ip must have got mixed up with a random site. Would reinstalling...
well I went into the etc folder but windows could not identify the hosts file so I could not open it. Could this be the problem? There was also lmhosts which was a SAM file. Also, the hosts file was only 1kb, is this right?
guys I ran that tool but it said I didnt have the qhosts virus. I can use all other search engines fine it's only google thats kaput. Could it have only deconfigured googles ip?
Hi guys, not really sure what the issue is so I hope this is the right forum. Basically, about 2 weeks ago I stopped being able to connect to google, or even to search on yahoo. All other internet connections/servers/websites work perfectly fine. I originally thought it was a google problem, as...
hey guys, been doing dome investigating. using getbackdata the D drive shows up as an 80gb physical drive but only a 9.86 logical drive. what does this mean?
hi everybody.
recently took the step of upgrading from win 98 to xp pro about 3 weeks ago. fine. installed broadband last week with a few problems, but finally got it working. was browsing the net this morning when all of a sudden my monitor goes to standby, my comp freezes, and I get 'white...
