    thanks everyone for your help. After fiddling with the power supply for a while i finally was able to get it working. thanks for all your advice and support.

    i dont know if gateway pc's are like dell in the sense of their unique proprietary hardware but Dell pc's have unique power supplies that cannot be replaced or upgraded with aftermarket psu's

    It is a brand new system i built and the PS is a retail enermax PS. I unfortunately do not have a spare power supply to test but i will tell you if fiddling with it fixes the problem.

    Absolutely nothing happens when i hit the power switch. I dont think that it is the connection from the power switch to the mobo. I really wouldnt expect the PS i chose (enermax 460w) to just give up like that but i might try what you said

    i can not for the life of me figure out why my computer is not even POSTing. It doesnt beep or even stir. It just sits there. any help or insight would be greatly appreciated
