    Text string manipulation

Thanks Sam. I'll use if-then-else form. Works as I desire.

    Text string manipulation

I've searched for a similar solution, but can't seem to get what I'm looking for. It seems like there is a simple answer. I'm putting together a korn shell script that monitors processes to determine if three different Oracle databases are up. I've got a variable that contains the processes...

    .profile not sourced

I've searched but can't find a solution to my .profile not being sourced at login. The server is AIX running 5.3 and I'm accessing CDE through WinAxe. The DTSOURCEFILE is set to true in my .dtprofile, and the .dt/startlog shows that the .profile is being sourced. Sourcing the .profile manually...

Comparable BART tool for Solaris 9

BART (Basic Audit Reporting Tool) is available on Solaris 10. This tool provides a simple tool to manage file level auditing. I'm interested in a Solaris 9 comparable tool that will allow me to manage/select the particular files that will be audited for modification activity. BSM (solaris...

hitachi san disk on aix 5.3: which driver we need to install on aix?

You also may wish to refer to a previous thread here. http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1030536 This references the use of MPIO on Hitachi SAN drives.

    Maytag Repairman

Update: The interview went very well. As a matter of fact the hiring manager said that he probably call me that day with an offer. It didn't happen. I mailed him a note of thanks the next day and after a week of no word, I contacted the HR recruiter and was told that it was not a best fit...

    Maytag Repairman

Thanks for all your comments. I think it would be in my best interest if I did bring it up and offer comments similar to what hilfy has made. It can't be proven, but I think previous interviews went south after applications detailed my DOB. Explaining my desire to continue working after in...

    Maytag Repairman

I'm referring to the normal retirement as determined by SS. I wish to continue regular employment and not taking the SS route. I've been close to other employment opportunities, and even with glowing interviews, no offer letter. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but should I bring it up or let things...

    Maytag Repairman

In my position, I feel like the maytag repair man, in that my skills are not being utilized, and there is no indication that they will. You see, I’m a certified specialist in administration and support for AIX 5.3 and my current position became available after accepting a buyout from another...

    yellow light On 7028

After verifying and checking out any errpts, you can issue the following command, as root, to clear off the amber light: /usr/lpp/diagnostics/bin/usysfault -s normal This function is within the diag, but to me, difficult to drill down to.

Replace PV in Maxed out VG

Thank you p5wizard. The VG is not mirrored so freeing up a mirrored PV is not possible. You've given me an idea. Instead of freeing up an existing used PV, why can't I allocate a new VG with the new PV, create a unique fs there, copy the LV (cplv), remove the orig. fs and lun, then rename the...

Replace PV in Maxed out VG

I have a need to replace an existing hdisk with another one. That need is due to some reconfiguration of the SAN luns. The PV is not bad. The volume group is at its maximum amount of physical volumes. Only one jfs2 file system (lv) is wholly contained on this disk. There are other lvs in this VG...

    PowerPath question

At my previous place, I installed EMC PowerPath. Follow the install instructions that come with it. You will have to remove each of your current PV's and after PowerPath installation, run cfgmgr on each of the adapters. Then there are some additional PowerPath commands.

failover and load balancing Hitachi 9585

If you are to use MPIO with Hitachi devices, understand that it is a "poor" man's fail-over and there is no loadbalancing. Choosing to go that way, you should install the ODM fileset from Hitachi, Solution ID : HDS38557.

    AIX and multi-pathing for HDS

thread629-1030536 For the cheap man's way of providing multi-pathing to Hitachi devices refer to HDS solution HDS38557. This provides the ODM definitions to allow fail-over, but not load-balancing. Even though it refers to the 9990V, I have 9980V on AIX 5.2 and 5.3 and it works fine on both. I...

    hosts.allow

By default, TCP Wrapper uses the mail facility within syslog to log to /var/adm/syslog. Check /etc/syslog.conf to see where mail.debug is logging to. There you will also find log entries from TCP Wrapper.

Cannot connect to local patch server

I will update this thread for any one else that may have a similar question regarding the Patch Manager. After installing the packages SUNWpsvrr and SUNWpsvru on the server, which are in the previously mentioned zip file, and starting the patch server on the server side with the command...

Cannot connect to local patch server

Upon further investigation, I think that the packages SUNWpsvrr and SUNWpsvru must be installed, which are not. I think that they are contained in the zip file: pm2.0_s9_lps_sparc.zip. Can anyone confirm that for me? Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.
