Are the three machines that are slow on the same hub? We had a similar situation, and it was due to a faulty hub. Another time, it was the cabling in the walls, and we needed to bring the phone guys in for that.
Weird. I haven't seen that problem here, but I'm curious. Is the whole document in italics, or just some of it? If you change the font to standard text, then save and close, and reopen, does the font size still go up? What version of MS Office are you running?
I agree with TheOne, even with the cash outlay. Besides, with an NT Server 4.0 setup, you could really experiment with all the nastiness that NT can inflict on unsuspecting administrators. That experience would be invaluable to some future employer of yours.
We don't use Access here, but I have heard a rumor (so this isn't written in stone!) that this is a fairly common Access bug. Check Microsoft to see if they have a patch. When we DL'd the last Office patch, our Excel printing problems went away.
