I got Ontrack's Easy Recovery Professional, it can find the files on the drive but it does not show their filenames (ex: FILE0410.xxx) it just groups them into their extensions. Is there a way the drive can be read so I can see the filenames?
**UPDATE**
The 320Gb drive I have is now showing up under the Computer Management screen. I had a 40gig partition with XP on it, and the rest partitioned for my media files. It shows up as 128gigs as healthy and active, and 170.09gigs allocated (however both are unaccessible). It is showing...
Alright....
I put it in the SATA 2 port on the MB and now Windows recognizes it. Problem is, it wants to format the drive but I will lose all my MP3s and such... Any way around this?
Hello,
I am very perplexed by this issue. I just built a new pc as follows:
new Intel 6700 Core 2 Duo (2.66Ghz)
new ASUS P5B Deluxe/Wifi
new Geforce 8800 GTS
old Audigy 2 ZS
old WD SATA 320 Gb
old WD IDE 80 Gb
old Liteon DVDRW 8x
My problem is as follows: I wanted to start with a new...
Couldn't be overheating, cpu is at 31 deg Celsius and rest is at 28 deg Celsius. I don't get any error message when the pc shuts down with those options unticked like stduc recommended. The power supply came with the case and is at 400w. I'm now looking at getting a 500w power supply.
I checked the DMA and that all checked out. Also messed around with those startup & recovery options. Now, my pc just shuts down at anytime. Don't think it is a virus (scanned with Norton Antivirus 2006) or spyware. Think it may be the power supply. Any thoughts?

i ran chkdsk but now I am getting a message saying that NTLDR is missing. Also, I have another hard drive on my pc. It used to be E:\ and my first hard drive (the one with windows on it) was C:\. Now the former E:\ is C:\ and the former C:\ is now D:\. What the heck is going on?
I had my pc on last night and left it on while i was at work (it was on for about 9 straight hours), and also I have done this before. However when i came home and turned my monitor on, xp was showing however it was frozen. I then restarted my pc and then it went into a continuous loop of...

I am trying to install Win XP Pro in my pc with a new motherboard (Intel 865GBF) and Pentium 4 (2.4 Ghz 800mhz Hyperthreading). When it goes to install Windows XP, it hangs when trying to install devices. Also, I was wondering what file system to use on the main 30 gig hard drive, FAT or NTFS...
