I've looked into this problem for about a week now and here's what I learned so far. MAD.exe is used to tell store.exe to let go of the amount of memory it's using, when this fails to happen store.exe (runs information store) uses more and more memory until the server doesn't have anough...
Does it happen after the user logs off or restarts their computer? Maybe they don't have the option "reconnect at logon" selected. Just a thought.
Did you delete the old computer account and recreate it new, this way the security ID on the old computer account is deleted and reassociated with the new computer account. This is important if your using the same name on the new computer that the name on the old computer was using.
Have you tried removing SP4, I know if this fixes the problem it doesn't help that you removed the SP, but I would then contact Microsoft directly. I know they've been helpful in the past if I can 100% verify the problem is caused by a SP. I have seen the slow mapping before, I'm currently...
You could also use the net use commands to disable connections your unfamiluar with and see if the bandwidth drops off. I would imagine you'll learn allot with the name of the computers listed after running the netstat command.
Go to the cmd prompt and type netstat. This will display a list of computers connected to your computer, the protocol being used, what port their using and your using, and the status of the connection. This will help pin point if someone is using your computer as a relay.
Try this, delete the computer account in AD, also place the computer in a workgroup. Recreate the computer account in AD and add the computer back. Sometimes the SID on the computer becomes corrupt and the server and computer have a hard time communicating.
Also check the "Enable Netbios...
Any reason your not behind a router. Provides excellent protection. I just bought a Linksys for $50 with a $10 rebate. Would eliminate what jrbarnett mentioned above - offcourse that's if there is spyware and you remove it first.
Is there any application log files reporting an application hanging, check event viewer. Sometimes you'll see a report about an application hanging. Also check system log files.
Something else to consider, what services are starting at startup? An engineering department I support doesn't use NAV because it doesn't work with the software they use to test IC chips but McAffee works fine. After log on go to task manager and see what process is taking awhile to load.
Disconnect the network cable and log on, this will use the locally stored password. If the computer still takes awhile you know it's someting local on the client computer. Since others can log on and don't have the long wait time it's probably local. Have you compared settings with the computers...
As I wrote the above I realize you wrote "connect to company router" you mean "connect to company server" amd I right?
What is your setup at home (or wherever the offsite location is)? Is your computer sitting behind a firewall? I think your remote setup is wrong more than...
You wrote: "my internet is a static IP address, do I need a public IP address to get connected to my company's server?"
No, I don't think you do. Something to check is the IP address of your home network and the network your making the VPN connection to. If there the same you will...
From this point going forward. I don't think you'll find anything that will onitor the past. If you were creating a log file then theres tools that will find the log files and report the data, but you never had auditing turned on - or any other type of monitoring so I don't think you'll be able...
There is a tool available called File Watch that monitors file activity and creates a log file for you to monitor. Go to www.foundstone.com \resources \ free tools. If your not familiar with this site you may want to bookmark it. I've learned allot from Foundstone and feel allot better about the...
Have you disconnected the network cable? I've seen this happen to me before - I'm running a 16 XP workstation that transfers images to and from a server, if data isn't transferring at a high enough rate the images would stay on the screen. My theory was the computer was waiting to process the...
