Hi
I am having a problem trying to create a sub admin role so that it's possible to allow password changes and other minor admin tasks but prevent access to the other users home directories.
Also I can see that a particular user can see various folders by checking Effective Rights but I can't...
We have an L20 tape robot and a Windows machine with BackupExec 11d installed. It is used to back up a Novell network and some Windows servers.
The jobs take much longer to complete that we thought they would. We have a 1GBPS link between the servers and the backup server but jobs vary between...
I recently posted about importing catalogs into BE from NBU but I assume it can't be done.
Is it possible to have both NBU and BE installed on the same machine BUT just to have BE running. If data needed to be recovered from the archive then stop BE and start NBU, do the restore and then stop...
Hi
We need to upgrade our backup software soon. At present we are using NetBackup 4.5 but have been advised that we should really be using BackupExec for our needs as we are only backing up a small amout of data from a few servers, this has been confirmed by several suppliers.
What they can't...
Thanks for that, I will set it up like that. It does seem strange to me that it isn't possible to merge a catalog, it's just a database isn't it, or am I way off?
I posted a thread some time ago asking how I could merge a catalog. I didn't manage to find a resolution to this and have tried to get help from Veritas/Symantec but they will only help us if we pay for support backdated to 2003 which I think is unfair (and very expensive).
What I need to know...
Thanks for that info. :-) The document isn't available on the Veritas site anymore unfortunately, but I did find a forum thread which Bob Stump (Stumpr?) wrote back in 2003 which has some instructions I will look into.
Thanks again
Andrew.
Okay, that doesn't work!!! When I copied the CATBAK folder back to the active server it had 10GB of files in it. I did a catalog backup job and it has overwritten all the files in there so there is just over 2GB of dfata in there. What's happened to it all?
Is there anyway that I can get the...
Thanks for the reply.
I will copy the CATBAK folder to the operational server and rename the folder on that one so that I can access those covering the two week period if I have to.
Thanks again. :-)
The setup we have is a Windows 2000 server controling an L20 robot with Netbackup 4.5GA. This backs up our main Novell network and some Windows servers as well. We have a duplicate Windows server ready to conect in the event that there is a problem with the other one.
That event happened while...
As a follow up I finally managed to restore the files. The problem was that the destination server was set to the server I originally tried to restore to, once I changed it away it went. Still don't know why I couldn't restore to a different server though.
Andrew.
The path does exist and it should have the correct permissions but just to make sure I did put the Novell client on the backup server and then map a drive to which I tried to restore to.
I logged in as admin so all rights were there. I did try to restore to the local hard drive and it did...
We have several servers which are all backing up. The restore I'm trying to do is from an old server which has been replaced. I should be able to restore to a different location shouldn't I?
We are using NBU4.5 on a Win2000 server to back up Novell Netware 6 servers. I have been asked to do a restore of over 5,000 files but I am having problems. The original server has been replaced so I am trying to restore to a different location.
I am using the NBU GUI to initiate the restore...
Hi Guys
An update for you. Yesterday I checked the jobs and noticed that they didn't have the option set for compression. I turned this on and the jobs (apart from one) ran okay last night. :-D
As the original jobs were done nearly two years ago I can't remember whether compression was set or...
Routers fine too Bob. It's a total mystery. One minute working fine then it all goes pear shaped without anything being done. That's why I'm wondering if some database or log is full, but I don't know what to look for.
Andrew.
Hi Ryan
Thanks for the reply. I knew we hadn't changed anything but just to make sure I checked and all NICs on the clients are set to 100 full duplex.
I had a look on the Veritas (Symantec) site but couldn't find any tools like the one you mentioned. Do you know the name of it and where I can...
Right. Redid the backup jobs from scratch. Still the same. [sad]
Reinstalled the server software. No luck there either. [sad] I installed over the existing installation - Repair installation - rather than uninstalling.
I'm at a loss what to do next. What files/logs get written to the backup...
