Just to complete the story in this thread. I upgraded to Irix 6.5.9 and removed the -C option from the /etc/config/rpcbind.options file. Networker is now very happy. Two nsrexecd processes are now running on the SGI system and backups are working great.
In addition to the Client Pak, turns out I had to start the SGI rpcbind daemon with the -C option. I am running Irix 6.5.7m. I will try and find out at what level of Irix the -C option would not be needed.
