If snmpwalk is running properly....there are two more things in ur problem..
1. Checking out wether a system is a Switch or not
2. If so how many interfaces that switch have..
the oid 'system.sysObjectID.0' will give u the default oid for that switch...in the sence this is the root...

All linux mechines are default SNMP enabled in the sense...u can use all the commands of snmp like snmpget, snmpwalk, snmpset, snmptrap, etc...u can say ur system is completely SNMP enabled then ur system should have a SNMP agent installed...Actually snmp demon won't collect any data...this...

as per my knowledge...Soaris boxes are not default snmp enabled...but u may use the commands snmpget, snmpset etc...but until u have snmp agent running u cnnot know the oid values...u have to have a SNMP agent running in the destination mechine...like sysedge, ssm etc..then only u can see...

the ifDescr property will return what type of interface it is of...please use this oid using snmpget..
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.2.1 But the thing is it depends upon the device u are doing snmp get...But the above oid will return what type of interface it is of...

As per my knowledge...if u want to see oid results in MIB..u have to load that mib into the MIB-Browser...And for that u please check out for "LOAD MIB" option in your MIB browser...and add ur Agents MIB file into that..Then u can see all the MIB variables avaliable...Please let me...
