Thanks for the help, guys. Yes, the primary cable was connected to the master + slave and the secondary cable was connected to the CD-ROM. They can only go in one way on the motherboard, HDs and CD-ROM so the cables aren't backwards. Looks like both cables could be bad or maybe it's the motherboard.
I tried this today, just with the CD-ROM drive. It shows up in bios so I went into Windows, removed it and rebooted as necessary but the problem still remains. I'm at a loss as to what to do next.
Due to a loud noise, I disconnected 2 HDs and CD-ROM from the motherboard to check that it wasn't one of the fans acting up. It did turn out to be one of the HDs but nothing major.
