Hi;
I have some files on a WinXP NTFS network share. When attempting to copy the files to Win2k or XP computers (all NTFS), I occasionally get the error "Cannot copy <filename>: The parameter is incorrect". The copy (explorer drag-and-drop) works fine on some computers, but not on others, and I...
Hi;
Sorry if this isn't quite the right forum, I couldn't find one more suited.
I'm hoping for an easy bit of help with Kix scripting. We're already set up to run Kix for our logon scripts. Now, I'd like to save myself a lot of running around for an inventory project.
Can someone tell me the...
Hi;
I'm hoping someone here can help me formulate an opinion. Part of the office I admin is a large warehouse. They have a few terminals down there, and they'd like to change up from their CRTs to LCDs. Now, aside from the craziness of putting several hundred bucks worth of monitors in to...
Managed to use a utility called "Testdisk" to recover the data off my hard drive, even though Windows was sure it was boned. It's freeware and GPL:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
Used a USB drive to move it to the server, and then the links above to reconfigure AD to look in a new...
Hi!
So, Murphy rose from the grave to get me today, and now I have Zombie Murphy bite marks on my ass. Here's what happened.
My main server was in need of replacement, so I transfered everything to a backup server, ran some DCPROMO, got everything running fine. There were issues with getting...
Hi;
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here.
I have a webpage that we have to use to create client accounts on. Normally this is a one-at-a-time affair. Recently, the jobs have been getting bigger though, and now I just got a 400 account setup dropped on me!
What I'm looking...
Hi all;
ettienne: Our Great Corporate Firewall blocks outbound SMTP traffic. Plus, even if it didn't, the mail has to come from my Exchange account.
JerryKlmns: I kinda considered that. The downside is it ties up my station for a while, as right now with ClickYes I can keep mucking around on...
Hi fredericofonseca;
Yes, we do have an internal Exchange server... along with a very inflexible Exchange administrator who refuses to make any changes to the system at all. "Absolutely no SMTP" is the word. :(
I broke down and installed Redemption to test it out, but I'd still be much happier...
Actually, I was just looking at CDO. :) However, it looks like it's SMTP, and I am behind a corporate firewall and can't do any SMTP. I'm stuck with Exchange only.
Hi!
I'm hoping someone here can help me be stubborn :) I use VBA to send several hundred emails to our corporate customers, and ever since that wonderful SR-1 patch, I get the "A program is trying to automatically send e-mail on your behalf" error. Now, I have been using ClickYes as a stopgap...
Hi!
I'm hoping there's someone around who remembers this old-school Office 97 trick!
I have some laptops that were purchased by a company we aquired. They have Office 97 on them. The Registered Company is now obviously wrong. Worse, the only Office 97 disk I have is a burned copy where they...
Hi;
Thanks for the comments folks!
Ok, near as I can figure, the problem was that Charon didn't properly create DNS records on Acheron when it was created. I don't know exactly why that would stop DNS on Charon from loading, even with the network cable unplugged... but, I rebuilt the DNS...
Hi!
I have an existing domain, with an existing server that we'll call Acheron. I'm wanting to migrate to a new server that we'll call Charon.
I did a full install (Win2kAS) on Charon, patched it up, got it all ready, ran DCPROMO with no problems. I started enabling all the services I want to...
Hi all;
I just had to reinstall everything on my PC. Fresh copy of XP SP2... check. Installed IIS off the CD. Check. Installed the latest ActivePerl off their site. Check. Copied over my old website directory, complete with all it's perl scripts... check.
The website runs fine, but when I go to...
Hi;
I'm blocking my website to a certain IP range.
I went into my mmc console, the site, properties, Directory Security, specified the range with the correct subnet, tested it out, all was well, I got a 403.6 error trying to access it from one of the IPs in question.
I needed a custom error...
Hi;
I run my own domain and IIS 5 server at home. I have an outward facing web page that uses NT authentication to allow access to users who have a valid active directory logon.
Recently, at work they added a new proxy server, and ever since that I get "HTTP 401.2 - Unauthorized: Logon failed...
Hi!
Firstly, I'm sorry if this is an easy question. :)
Here's all I want to do: When a user accesses index.htm on my site, I want to somehow make a note on my server of their username or computername. It was suggested I use cookies for this, which is a nifty idea... except that I've never done...
Cookies... a most excellent idea!
I'm off to learn how to make cookies and keep track of them. If anyone has any hints on it, please let me know!
Thanks Chris.
Hi!
I'm trying to find a way (either through built-in logging, 3rd party app, or nifty little web trick) to record either the computername or username of visitors to my various websites. I haven't had any luck on google yet, and I have seen lots of people asking but not getting an answer, so I...
Hi!
I'm hoping someone can save me from a most horrid headache.
I have 1 IP address.
I have a Win2k Advanced Server.
I have 2 different websites running (thanks, headers!)
I want to enable Frontpage 2002 extensions on both of them.
However, the option to add the extensions is only available...
