What happens when you connect the power cords? Do the power supplies blink in a particular way (e.g. 10x flash green, 1x flash amber) ?
Could be an interlock problem. Some older proliants had an interlock on the chassis - if the panels were not in place, the server wouldn't power up.
It might...

You're probably using an older version of Array Configuration Utility. The version from SmartStart 5.0 and onwards should work. There was a problem with 4.80 and previous versions when doing a logical drive extension in Win2k, the expansion feature was deactivated in 4.90 until the problem could...
If you can't get your hands on a SmartStart CD:
What file did you download? If it was CP002547.exe, this has the necessary files for installing the driver during NT setup (TXTSETUP.OEM). Extract them to a floppy. The problem is you have to press F6 when NT setup starts (as soon as you get the...
Hi Ben,
just so you know: The configuration is saved on the disks, not the controller. Another Smart Array Controller should be able to read the data on the disks. I would suggest another 3200, or if you can't get one of them, use one of the older Smart-2 series (e.g. 2-DH). If you use a...
You can also create the System Configuration Utility diskettes from the SmartStart CD or download them:

This creates a set of 4 floppies. Boot from the 1st one, and you can run SCU. If you didn't have the system utility...
There's a good thread on the Compaq Servers Forum describing how to replace disks with larger ones on a Smart Array Controller (without losing data):

Did you try creating the System Erase Disk (floppy) and booting from that to wipe the system? Sometimes a System Erase from SmartStart doesn't wipe everything.
You can download System Erase here:

Compaq Smart Array controllers store the disk configuration on the disks themselves. On boot up the array controller looks for arrays/logical drive on the disks. It doesn't store the config in NVRAM. What you are attempting should work, but as a precaution, make sure you have a working backup of...
As far as I know, the memory is reserved by the chipset for Hot Plug PCI slots. Don't know how much per slot, but it can take quite a lot of memory.
You can go into RBSU (F9 setup), under Advanced Options -> Hot Plug Resources
Has 4 options:
Disabled
Normal
Extensive
Auto Set (default)...
