i have found a workaround for this issue. i created a replica of the mailfile using adminp. once the mailfile was on the new mail server, i re-sent the move user request, adminp saw that there was a file already, and update the domino nab entry for the user.

yes they are both on the same domino named network

yes i have checked tha acl. the old and new server are listed as managers on the acl. one entry i have seen on the internet refers to some archive setting on the mailfile (where i dont know) which has an older certificate. but i dont have a clue where to look for that.
