Each month as part of monthly backup I run XP System Information to look for differences vs last month (yes, I am paranoid). This month generating the NFO file took quite a long time. Come to find out the Software Environment/Program Groups now lists every directory under 'Documents and...
Just ran a full compare against my backup/mirror drive to check for changes (checks everything except system32\config i.e. NT registry files). No files differ (fyi I did a full backup just prior to XP install, including registry files). I don't think XP install even got far enough to copy files...
I am trying to install XP Pro into an already formated seperate partition in a dual boot NT4/sp6a environment. I booted from the XP CD and setup appeared to hang at "Setup Is Starting Windows" while in text mode. After waiting 5 minutes, I cycled the PC and eventually got back to NT. Now my CD-R...
My desire is to end up with a dual boot system with my current NT and an XP upgrade of my current NT in diffent partitions. I have a 2 drive system. One drive is my run drive and the other it's backup. I can zap the backup drive and use if for experiments, for now. Eventually I want to get back...
I am planning on upgrading from NT 4.0 to XP Pro. I currently have NT installed on a 2GB FAT partition (c:). When I run the XP upgrade advisor it informs me I do not have enough space on c:. My d: partition is a 35GB NTFS with tons of free space (c: and d: are partitions on the same physical...
Uninstaling 823803 fixed my RAS issues also. Many thanks to all. I was curious why this fix was installed on my NT 4.0 Workstation when if you read MS03-29 they infer the path is necessary for NT4.0 Server and NT4.0 Terminal server only. MS03-29 does not mention NT4.0 Workstation.
I also rooted around this morning and found the same tech note. The timing makes sense, I installed Hotfix Q328310 on 12/13 and my problems first occured on 12/29. I too will uninstall and reinstall 328310 today and see what happens.
Virus files are updated daily. Disk scan, defrag, temp file clearing, Microsoft updates, etc performed every 30 days as part of backup procedure. The system is well maintained and backed up.
Since I have had no hardware problems (RDRAM was not the problem) and no software changes or additions...
I have started getting occasional NT 4.0 PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (0x0000004E) blue screen errors at logoff and/or shutdown. I have replaced my RDRAM which has not helped. No new drivers have been added for a long, long time. Only system software changes made have been Microsoft recommended updates...
