How about using partition magic? I used it on my servers and it worked a treat.
Alternatively create another partition and move the paging file there.
Also, move your install directories for the apps to the other partition as well.

It has been recommended that we upgrade our PIX firewalls from 5.1(2) to 5.1(4). Are there any issues associated with this? Any problems I should look out for? Should I consider going to the latest version of the PIX OS instead?

It doesn't know and doesn't care. All any system cares about is the link cost or "metric". IF you switch the link costs around and make the ISDN cheaper then the system will route through that - not to be recommended.
Normally you set an IP address on a managed switch. Some have a built in web server for configuring and all have a CLI of some form. Some come with software but it's not normally necessary. VLAN's are useful only if you need them
