    copy file question

Perfect, just what I was looking for guys. Thanks for the great replies. So if I edit my cron it would look something like this...? 30 10 * * 0 root cat /var/log/up2date.log > /tmp/"`/usr/bin/date +\%Y-\%m-\%d_`_up2date.log" I understand that cron will have issues with % but I'm not sure...

    copy file question

Our IT auditors would like us to start backing up the /var/log/up2date.log files on a weekly basis. Does anyone know if there is a command that will allow me to copy a file to another directory AND add a timestamp in the file name. So that the file being copied would be called...

    Email and HTML

Anyone know why an email will show up as the native HTML? From time to time, from one particular vendor, we receive emails that show lines like... <p class=3DMsoNormal><font size=3D2 face=3DArial><span = style=3D'font-size:11.0pt; font-family:Arial'> Sometimes the emails arrive clean 'n...

32 bit processor and 4 gig limit

Anyone know if you have 2-4 processors if you can exceed the 4gig RAM limit? What I'm wondering is, does the limit apply per processor. We're looking to setup some VMWare on a server with 4 processors and 4 gig of RAM. We're wondering if it would make sense to toss in 8 gig of RAM... Thanks!

    Adding Drive to RAID5

Running a G1 HP/Compaq ML350 with a RAID5 We're looking to add an additional drive in order to increase drive space. Is there any catch to this or is it simply a matter of inserting the new drive and the RAID card will automatically adjust? Thanks, - F

    XP Folder View

I'm having this problem with both a Windows XP and Windows 2000 computer. When a user double clicks My Computer to open explorer, and then clicks on "Folders" on the menu bar, the computer takes a dive. Basically all windows close, icons disappear and you just see the background. No...

Veritas 8.6 backup to file confusion

Yes you can do this. Let me break down our situation for you. Server A is backed up entirely everynite. Server B needs to backup a portion of itself and copy it over to Server A where it can be backed up. Create a backup job through Windows and create the .bkf as the previous post suggested...

    change netware6, master , server

Like Terry said, download the migration wizard from novell. You will setup the new server with a generic name in a generic tree. The wizard will then move everything over from the old server to the new server. The old server will be brought down and the new server will appear with the old...

    Mark folders as unmovable

Give clients list access to the folder and read/write access to the contents. Remember to enable DENY on the delete access - which is what a move basically is. That is about as close as you're going to get. If you give your clients write access they will be able to copy the contents...

    Migration Wizard and GroupWise

If you run the migration wizard, it should copy all of the NDS structure over. You'll also want to copy over the groupwise domain directory and then reinstall groupwise on the new server. Should be pretty seamless and users should notice nothing different if done correctly.

    Quota Entries not resetting

I assume you're running Active Directory. Configure quotas in the right template and it should trickle down. The user will need to reboot his/her workstation for the changes to take effect.
