You can prevent a certain user from logging in locally to the server by editing the servers local computer policy.
Open the group policy editor (gpedit.msc, if I remember correctly) from c:\winnt\system32. Using the editor, go to path "Computer configuration/Windows settings/Security...
Have you tried adding a local account "Domain Users" to your client workstations and put the account to the local group "Administrators" on the client workstations?
That should give all your domain users administrative rights on the client workstations so that they can access them via Remote...
Okay, this is what I found out recently:
When logged in as a domain user or administrator, the "Entire network" tab does not appear in the Explorer under "My network place". No change after pressing F5 a zillion times.
But after I had browsed the network through the "My network places" desktop...
I replicated the test environment at my home with 2003 Enterprise edition (180d evaluation), XP Pro and 2000. The same problem occurred with the XP. I can access shares on the server and modify folder rights, and there seems to be no other problems. When logging to the domain as a domain user...
Thanks for replying! Some more questions....
Why does the "Entire Network" folder disappear from "My network places" at the Explorer only when a user is logged in to the domain? And why does it yet show up always at the left side-bar of Windows XP when clicking to "My network places" from...
Hello, could someone help me with this?
I'm testing our new Windows 2003 Server -domain with an XP Pro, and this morning I lost the "Entire Network" thing when browsing through Windows Explorer. "My Network places" stays empty no matter what I do!!! When clicking "My network places" on desktop...
I found the problem in my case. I had accidentally denied users the right to access the active directory. I had done this after making the win2000-machine a domain member, this seems to be the reason why it did apply the GP and XP-machine didn't.
Beginner mistake.
I have also noticed that in...
Hi!
I'm running a test lab with a Win 2000 Server, a Windows 2000 Pro client and a Windows XP client.
My Win2000 client is applying Group Policy perfectly, but my XP client isn't doing so at all!!! Could anyone give me a hint what's the problem!?!
I get the following errors/warnings in the log...
Never mind, I found the right thing to do in Microsoft's knowledge base article 246108.
I made my server assign its IP-address via DHCP to be the clients DNS address. Now all client computers apply the group policy.
Damn it...I worked three days on this and in the end the solution was so easy...
I'm running a little test lab with one Windows 2000 Server and couple 2000 Pros' as client computer on my domain.
I have user accounts in active directory that work fine when logging in from domain client computers. Well, almost that is!

My problem is this:
When I leave a win2000pro computer on and locked for a long period of time, after about 40 minutes it logs out automaticly, shutting all user's programs!!! How can I prevent this from happening???
I have noticed that this happens also on our win2000 server, but it takes...

Today, ispired by the last reply, i changed the borders to 5mm AND IT WORKED!!!! It goes beyond my reasoning how, but it worked!
NO MORE PROBLEM!
