I've been following a thread about this on Corel's newsgroups. One key to the puzzle is that this only happens on NTFS partitions. If you're using a FAT32 file system, you won't have this problem. I had exactly the same problem with WP 9 when I converted to a Windows XP machine. It drove me crazy for months, but then I found Barry MacDonnell's tip site and the following solution.
