My Excel 2000 started opening up in R1C1 mode.
I can do 'Tools / Options / General / uncheck R1C1 reference style' and it will stay in A1 mode until I close Excel. When I start Excel again the blank sheet is back to R1C1 mode. I have killed the Excel*.xlb file and removed all files from the...
I have a similar problem.

You can also disable the 'Enable/Disable' prompt by going to the Tools menu- Macro- Security and switching to the 'Low' setting. Hopefully you already have an anti-virus program that stops any virus' before they get to Excel.
Dreamboat,
Back on the problem of opening files from Windows Explorer, I think I discovered the solution.
Microsoft has an Excel 2002 SP-2 Update (October 16,2002) that appears to have fixed the problem.
See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];329750
I performed the steps in 'cleanyourpc.htm' and also ran the Office 'Repair' from the install CD.

Any other suggestions?

Is it possible to define a variable in one workbook module and reference it in another workbook?
I want to call a subroutine from another workbook and have it recognize a variable set in the calling workbook subroutine. (It's a utility subroutine that I'd like to call from any other workbook)...
Creating a custom userform would allow me to control the options, but how do you simulate the 'Step 3 of 3' dialog box 'Data Preview' window? The user must be able to select the 'Column Data Format:' for each column (which changes for each different import)?
I have noticed the same thing. Have you tried using the 'Project Explorer' window (View- Project Explorer). I place it on the lefthand side of the VBE application as narrow as I can view the files. Then when I open up VBE I just maximize the top code window & move from module to module by...
In VBA, is it possible to check the current argument settings for the 'Text to Columns' dialog box before opening it for the user?
Specifically, is the Delimited 'Other:' box checked and what 'other_char:' is used?
Alernately, is there a way to get to the 3rd dialog box of the 'Text to...
