Wishdiak, I've read that document 4 times now. Anyhow, I got the problem fixed. I had to insert the SSLCACertificate clause into the host so that it knew where the root certifcates where stored. Once I did this, SSL worked correctly. Thanks for your reply.

Have you tried to telnet to the machine from OUTSIDE your firewall? I would try this first to see if you are actually accepting packets on the firewall side. Then let us know what happens.

Thanks for the suggestion. This option is disabled and has been for a while on our server. It is strange. The client attempts to telnet from their smtp server to our mail server and it simply times out. Very odd. Any other thoughts? Also, thanks very much for such a quick reply.
