The computers have no firewalls and are connected with a cross cable. Now the network is working partly, i.e. both computers recognise network and workgroup but don't see each other, only themselves.
I installed a network on 2 computers with Windows XP on the one and 98 on the other. The workgroup is the same, but with a fixed IP-number they don'd 'see' each other. Ping doesn't work (time out, packets get lost). Ping to adapter (127.0.0.1) does work so the hardware is o.k.
