Thanks for the advice.
Another question, would it be possible to build latest samba from source and not overwrite any of the current samba files so I could try this and easily roll back?
Thanks again.

Hi I have a Redhat Enterprise 3 server with samba installed. I've previously run up2date to update packages, but notice that this won't install latest version of samba. (3.0.20). How do I go about this - I'm not very familiar with Linux packages.
* I have this version: samba-3.0.9-1.3E.2

Jeff:
Thanks for the input - I had thought of doing it this way, but was really hoping I could have the server wake up each machine just in time for it's backup, rather than wake them all up before the job, as the backup takes most of the weekend. My current thought is to maybe write a script...
Am using Arcserve 2000 with Client agents on XP desktops and would like to have the backup server issue a wake up on lan command prior to backing up the client, so the machines could be powered off prior to backup. Anyone done this or have any pointers. Would rather do this for each individual...
Hi:
Have a Cisco 2611 running IOS 12.1.
When it boots, it boots with a standard (nothing configured) state. If I type show startup-config, then my correct config is show. If I show running-config, I get just the basic few lines that are the default. If I copy startup-config running-config. It...
All:
Bizarre problem, PIX up and running reasonobly OK. But can't connect to www.3com.com website from behind the pix. All other websites I've tried work fine. Works fine if I access from a client on 'outside' side of pix. I've tried disabling HTTP inspection - makes no difference. PIX is v7...
Thanks Chris.
I have already disabled it, but wasn't sure whether this was related to the (new) esmtp inspection available in v7 or whether the old regular smpt inspection in 6.x also caused problems. Only recently installed the PIX, so have no experience using 6.x.
Cheers,
Barry
Hi,
Wondering if anyone else is seeing any issues with esmtp inspection in version 7. Specifically, we get errors from qmail servers delivering mail to our site (running sendmaill 8.13.3. The mail appears to get delivered but, qmail returns a mail delivery failure to the sender, with the error...
Thanks for the input.
I've disabled the logging of that error number for the present. Think it's a bit strange as it's logged at severity level 3, and other errors with this number might be relevant. Will raise it with Cisco and see what they say.
Cheers,
Barry
How about something like this, assuming your IP addresses were 100.100.100.0/255.255.255.0
OUTSIDE: 100.100.100.1/255.255.255.240
DMZ: 100.100.100.17/255.255.255.240
INSIDE: PAT/NAT
On your upstream router:
ip route 100.100.100.0 255.255.255.240 100.100.100.1
ip route 100.100.100.16...
Thanks for your input.
I understand it doesn't forward broadcasts - I wouldn't expect it to, but I don't understand why it logs it as an error.
Cheers,
Barry
Hi,
I'm getting repeated errors regarding broadcast traffic on all interfaces on our PIX 515 running version 7.0 software. Examples below. This would appear to be NetBIOS broadcast traffic, but I don't understand why it should try to pass the interface, as the interface (wifi) is specified as...
Hi:
If you have a Unix box handy, you could connect a serial port from the Meridian to the Unix box. Then telnet/ssh to the Unix box and run cu or other terminal program from there. Works fine for me.
Cheers,
Barry
Hi:
I've read in some previous posts how to setup a CLID entry to display individual extension CLIDs. However, our situation is that extension numbers don't quite map to the DID numbers.
i.e.
DID Number: 555 01xx
Extension: 2xx
If I set up CLID entry to supply the DID, then the caller ID is...
