The second is a new site by the guy i got most of my info from. I just got a Proliant 1500 that is fairly intact, except no drives. As soon as I get some drive for it I will try to resolve your situation.
I have seen some drives that have a "start yourself" jumper.
Usually, in an array, this is not done because all the drives starting at once can blow the power supply. In the "advanced" section of my Adaptec cards configuration utility there is an option to "send start...

except the 4500 is EISA bus and Red Hat doesn't recognize the on-board SCSI controller that...
