    Thanks everybody for your input. I will try the dmpcfg on the next server. After a few days of messing around I finally just created a bootable win2000 cdrom as the new server has no floppy and started from scratch. Happy trails.

    Thanks, I was wondering if that may be the problem. Unfortunately the bridge will not let me repair, delete nor even see the properties to try your suggestion. I guess a complete reinstall is the answer but the one option I was trying to avoid as the machine is overseas and I am not.

    Addition information on this. Under network connections on the faulty laptop the 'network bridge' shows nothing and cannot be changed or deleted. Does the network bridge under XP pro handle the vpn or have any influence on it?
