I am using IEAK6sp1 to build an IE Kit.
The only option I choose to configure is "Policies and Restrictions".
At the end of the build process, I choose Internet Settings/Advanced and then goto the bottom and choose not to have the internet connection wizard run.
I install the kit on...
Why don't you build your own page:

save it as c:\mypage.htm. It will refresh every 15...
You should be able to write a script pretty easily to get the version out of the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
There are several values you can use under this key to help you determine the current registered version.
