Thanks Bill,
What effect does turning the recovery mode to SIMPLE have? Does it turn off journalling (logging) completely, or just prevents restores from logs?
Cheers,
Matt

Hi,
I need some advice on a backup plan for our MS SQL 2000 server.
We only have one database hosted on it (used by an application called Goldmine, which is a CRM system). As the database is small (less than 500mb), and we can handle losing up to a day's worth of data, we have decided to do a...
That stored procedure ran correctly, but the hand is still there. Any more ideas?
The hand on the publishing database is not a huge issue though, it's more of a problem that the subscribing server thinks it's still subscribed. Any idea how to cure that?
Both servers are MS SQL 2000, Service...
Hello all,
Our company has recently expanded into the USA (we were previously based in Australia), and before the 'USA team' left, I was playing around with replication between our local SQL server and the server they took with them.
Once I was done playing, I removed the publication on our...
Thanks for the reply Neil.
Firstly, HT is definately enabled in bios. I have the latest service pack installed - do I perhaps need to re-install it after setting the computer to the multiprocessor HAL?
The server is a no-name-brand (sort of). It's built up around an Intel server chassis and...
I was under the impression that while Windows 2000 doesn't 'natively' understand HT, it can take advantage of it because it simply believes there are two processors in the system. Are you sure it's not possible to use it like this because I'm sure I've talked to people before who have used HT...
Hi all,
We recently purchased a new server, which came with a P4 Xeon 2.4Ghz with Intel's 'Hyper-Threading' technology. Hyper-threading makes the one physical CPU appear as two 'logical' CPUs in BIOS, and hence to take advantage of it, Windows 2000 needs to have a multi-processor HAL installed...
We are also considering using Terminal Services on our (small - 6-10 users) office network to simplify administration. Our server is powerful enough to handle it, but what I wanted to know is are there any big downsides to using Terminal Services?
Cheers,
Matt
Little problem with a new workstation image - whenever I logon a user which is in our 'Staff' OU (which has a Group Policy applied to it), that user has no 'Quick Launch' bar on their taskbar, and doesn't get a right-click popup menu unless they right click in the time area. If you do...
Well, the problem is finally fixed! I used Security Configuration & Analyses, Analysed my current setup vs the default one, and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary - so I just applied the default settings, re-applied my own custom security settings, and it's all fine.
Thanks to everyone...
Haven't been in the office today so I haven't been able to try anything new. Anyway:
Gia: Thanks for that - I assume I just Right-Click -> Install the .inf file? I'll try that and see if it fixes the problem.
dmull: No, no logon scripts, but thanks for the suggestions.
Cheers,
Matt
Unsure on the SYSTEM permissions Nick, I'm at home at the moment (we're in Australia), but I will check next time I'm in the office.
One thought I had was - does anyone know of a program (maybe an MS util?) which resets all the permissions (folders, files, registry, etc) on a workstation to...
Thanks for the response Gia.
I was thinking the same thing as you regarding it being a problem with userinit.exe, but seeing as I can log the accounts on fine when they are Administrators (locally), doesn't that suggest it's some sort of permissions problem?
I find it sort of strange...
Ok, I tried giving the account local Admin privelidges, and that lets it log-in fine... So, obviously it's a local permissions problem, but the only local permissions I can remember changing was to add the domain group 'Domain Users' to the local group 'Power Users' (so users could install their...
Hi everyone,
We have setup a new server (W2K with Domain) here in our office, and I am creating a new workstation 'image' to go roll out alongside it. However, I have run into a problem with my roaming users. What happens is that when I log any of my roaming users onto the new workstation, it...
