Chances are, you are outputting uncompresed video from Magic Bullet. Don't know if it can output to the DV Codec, but all you have to do to fix this is re-import the clip into AE and re-render to DV.
Not as far as I know anyway... can't recall having to set anything up in AE. I run Windows 2000 Pro, so I normally use the Performance section of the TaskManager to watch both processors blast through those renders. Do you run Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro? I don't know if XP Pro has the...
Erm... well, that computer has given me a lot of headaches with regards to weird little things going wrong and ceasing to function (like my USB ports, for instance - no Wacom tablet anymore - boo!hoo!). My Firewire card is a bit sporadic too (to say the least!) even though it is a really good...
If you have the ProBundle version of AE, you can use the Particle generator to emit lots of small white particles. Adding a Gaussian blur on top of these gives quite a convincing smoke simulation.

Hi Kyle,
There's loads of ways of going about this and also loads of considerations, such as frame rate, de-interlacing, 3:2 pull-down (still not sure about this one - some thing to do with film to video transfers methinks). It's always a biq question when it comes to DV. Some of the most...
Firstly, if you're rendering from a 3d app, try rendering the bike with an alpha channel mask instead of a green backround - it may not make a huge difference, but then again, it might.
Secondly, if the image size of the Jpeg backround is smaller than the composition, or if a too-high ratio of...
The first thing I would suggest would be to copy the Cutout filter from the Photoshop filters folder and place it into the AE plug-ins folder. This will cause the filter to show up in AE. There's a certain voodoo element as to whether or not this will werk (lighting black candles and sacrificing...
Hi Matt,
Thanks a million for taking the time and effort to help out with this. I guess copying and pasting would be a good work-around, but doesn't using the screen mode need layers and don't layers screw up the Filmstrip format? Ahh... you're talking about light-sabers, aren't you. It's not...
Okay, I know that this is from a while ago but I hit a bit of a brick wall. The problem is that on the 'video output' option there is nothing else in the list except for the desktop. I have a really good Firewire card and Premiere werks fine with it but it's not showing up in AE. I'm running...
Sorry... I used to have 256mb which gave me about 10 seconds at PAL resolution, so I assumed that was the problem. Can't think of anything else offhand I'm afraid.
You simply ran out of RAM. You could change the resolution to half which should give you much more rendering time or else buy some more. 1/2 a gigabyte is dirt cheap these days and you really do notice the difference in your overall system performance.
Ahhhh... lovely clouds.
When it comes to this type of thing, there's no plug-in that will really do it justice. Your 2 options are to...
(a) Use a camera with a built in time-lapse function. This is cool because you only end up with a few seconds of footage, even after filming for quite a...
I'm not very hot on masking at all, but from what I can remember you create a new mask, use the pen tool to add extra points to it and then use the bezier handles to adjust the curves as desired.
Everybody was waiting to see if you were going to answer this yourself... The most obvious thing I would ask is (and many apologies if you're not a novice) did you remember to activate the keyframes for the position controls of the lightning effect? This would explain why it wasn't following...
I just remembered amout depth mattes, though. I'm using Bryce a bit at the moment and you can render a scene as a Distance Mask. This essentially renders out a black & white version of your scene where Black = near and White = far away. When you import your original footage and distance mask...
Another variation of this is to use a Fractal Noise filter on a new solid or adjustment layer to impart a gently swirling effect. Add a touch of Gaussian blur to soften it up a bit and it's pretty convincing. You should also mess around with different transfer modes (although I find that Screen...
Yay!!!!
I don't remember ever coming across this option and I won't be home until Tuesday to check it out (I'll be busy hurtling a dune buggy over the biggest sand dunes in Europe) but it's great to know it is possible. Thanks a million.
Now... if I can just get that second 21inch monitor...
Try as much as you want... it won't werk for you. This stumped and frustrated me for ages until I bought that AE5.5 Magic book.
The reason for this filter (and all the 3D Channel filters) is to help you composite 3D layers rendered from Maya, 3D Max etc. that contain z-axis information to...
I spend most of my computer time in AE messing with ideas so I don't always want to spend time rendering stuff out before I can see what it really looks like on my television. I'm total tweak addict and even though the computer displays at a much higher resolution, you don't really get a true...
