I don't think there is a way around that, the better question is why did the file become corrupt? Anyhow you can play 20 questions with that and still may never know why. Which file is it, do you know? This would help?
In the bios can you go and check for me to make sure your computer can except Windows XP,(you might need to hit F1 or Del key depending on the board when the PC is begining it's normal boot process) If you it does not except XP then is your culprit, find out who the manufacter of your board is...
I'd upgrade the power supply! 250 watts is not enough, you can buy power supplies in the 350 Watt range for $30.00 online ie (e-bay)maybe less, just do your homework and make sure you get one that will fit your case.
