    Ah...the joy of Messenger Service. It's been a while since I've used 2000, so I'm not 100% sure about the navigation on it, but on XP you can disable this crap by going to Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services, selecting Messenger from list and disabling it...
