problem solved! just preformed a system restore and hey presto it now works fine! not the ideal way to fix it i know but hey it worked! thanks for your time smah though it was appreciated

It won't let me into computer management either, a message exactly the same appears only the file it cannot open is now compmgmt.msc. task manager still works normally. just tried replacing the file with one of my brothers computer, still no luck though
