Sorry, but the drive is also missing from Control Panel/System/Device Manager. Perhaps the driver is not loading...but why only from a cold boot? Tis a puzzlement!- BuffaloBill

The primary and secondary HDs are present in the BIOS regardless. The problem is that Windows does not recognize the secondary HD (in this case, D:) as being present until I reboot without powering off.
