Thank you for your suggestions. I went to the manufacturer's site (Hitachi) and found the program to do the low-level formatting. That did it.
technome,
Oops. Sorry about that. I cross-posted it in a different forum because I didn't get any responses in the first place and I didn't know how to erase it.
longlivegoku,
After finishing the reinstallation, I wanted to promote the server to domain controller. When I entered a domain name, Windows refused to accept the name, saying it was alrady used and gave a suggested name which was the name I wanted followed by "0".
So, I am inclined to believe...

My quetion is: Why does the server remember the past domain name EVEN AFTER I deleted the partition COMPLETELY and FORMAT the C drive entirely DURING THE INSTALLATION?
I expected this would clear the drive, but it did not. That is why I am asking this question.
I am not using...
Thank you for a prompt reply, longlivegoku.
No, my question is not about DNS or about how to change computer name. I just want to completely wipe out the server's HD and start from scratch. The normal formatting procedure at the time of Windows 2003 installation does not seem to erase...
I am setting up DELL PowerEdge 2600. Not satisfied with the setup of the server I created the first time, I decided to start over. I booted with Win2003 CD and re-formatted the entire C drive completely.
When I started a new server, I was surprised to see 2 lines of "Windows server 2003" at the...

I am building my own pc. One question that has been bothering me is which way I should install a HD. Horizontally or vertically? After all, gravity must affect the mechanism of a hard drive in the long run, and I tend to think that a vertically installed HD will get less impact of gravity, thus...
Can I pass data, say, a string, to an exe program by a command line? And if so (I hope), how can I retrieve it from inside the program?
For example, suppose the program is MyProgram.exe. I would like to start it by a command line like
MyProgram.exe "abc"
Now, I don't know how to retrieve this...
v1b1n,
Thanks for the detailed help.
miles4,
Since you are trying to install SATA HD on ASUS P4PE, I can help you with my own experience.
1. The first step is to make a floppy disk with Promise RAID driver. (This is the step I didn't know for long time.) Insert the CD that came with ASUS...
I recently purchased Western Digital's Searial ATA 37GB HD (called Raptor - I hope this has nothing to do with ENRON!). I am trying to install it in my PC which has ASUS's P4PE motherboard w/SATA interface. So far, the only way I could install it was to install it as a RAID. This would be fine...
Dear Hkeyman,
I have just finished bridging 2 WAP11s(WAP11 1.0 and WAP11 2.6) and wonder if my experience might shed some light to your situation.
I will list the configurations of the 2 devices (I know you have done all this, but...)
WAP11(1) (Old model - firm ware 1.4i.1)
Bridge Mode...
Brian,
Thank you for your thought. That is a good point. The computer I upgraded to Win2K on was running Win98 and the user was complaining it was slow. If it was doing the internet connection sharing, it explains the slowness. No, I didn't pay close attention to each PC's pconfig. Don't you...
To All,
I checked the network configuration of this PC before I reformatted. It had no special setup, just "Automatically obtain IP ..." No second network card and no special program that I was aware of. That is why I was intrigued. I thought that Verizon's installation program would...
