While sorting through some old disks I came across some old personal Wordpro documents from several years ago. I managed to open all but one as it's password protected and I would like to access it so I can save it in Word or Rich Text, I have the hardcopy and don't really want to type it up...
Thanks for the suggestion, I've tried the CDRW alone (without the other CD plugged in) and the fault persists. But will endeavour to try another PSU and come back with any changes to the situation.
Best,
John
Got a new ASUS CDRW set up as a secondary master on IDE2, also have another CD running off the primary HD as a slave. Both detected as such on boot into Windows 98 SE. Both present as drives D: and E: Provided I boot up with a CD in either drive I can navigate, install and do the usual things...
Have been living in a pre-Pentium II world until recently and have just made steps into the 21st century and bought myself a new Sony DDU1621 DVD-Rom to go into the new(er) PC I've been putting together.
I installed it on the secondary IDE as a master drive and as it came without any software I...
Have now done as Lexmark suggested and upped the RAM to 64Mb. No change in the installation, which was expected. They also suggested I copy the printer install to the Desktop and run it in Safe Mode (their solution for installation freezes in Normal mode), again this didn't work. Have tried...
Thanks for the links gargouille and Nobrain, I'll check them out. Might provide more leads.
Spent most of the day calling Lexmark tech support; they were so busy they had people taking messages and running a call-back system. to their credit they called me back twice but I was always too busy...
Thanks for your reply.
I now have my sister-in-law's PC at home and can provide further details of the fault, which are as follows:
The PC itself has an AMD 450MHz K6 processor, with 32Mb of RAM running Windows 98SE. Upon installation of the X73 software (before the X73 is plugged into the USB...
My sister-in-law has a problem with her LEXMARK X73 all-in-one scanner, printer, fax, copier. Despite going through the installation process successfully, when she tries to print to it the following error appears:
"LEXMARK X73
Printer not Ready
Cannot Communicate
with Printer

Thanks for the response TyrantSSV. In answer to your query, I ran the chipset install once the board was in and it made no diff. Still auto-detects. Have had a quick scout around the net and this seems like a fairly common problem, will explore the CD and see if there are any readme files or if...
Dear All,
I have a Gigabyte PIII motherboard that detects new hardware, namely PCI System Management Bus. I don't have drivers for it and they're not on the CD that came with the board (at least I think not anyway). Have fudged the install and it's now active as Unknown Device, doesn't seem to...
Step up Wolluf and take a bow, twas indeed 'dodgy' memory causing the prob.
Thanks again to you all for your assistance and input.
Much appreciated.
Kind regards,
John
Every day's a school day, thanks for the posts chaps!
My engineer mate has successfully installed the HD in his own system; formatted, partitioned and OS loaded using my Windows CD. So that rules out the drive and s/w, he's going to transfer the drive to my board and see what happens from...
Dear All,
Wolluf: No idea of the age of the memory; pulled from a working machine and added to mine, that's about all I know about it. Thanks for the tip, I'll go buy some new memory for testing purposes this weekend. I planned to get this badboy above and beyond 128Mb anyway.
Gargouille: I'm...
The install CD was used to install the OS I'm running on my current (clunky old pre-MMX) PC. So you can see why I'm a bit out of the loop with the new kit I have. But it def works. And it's original as well, no dupes.
Granted the first board I had was second hand, but the new Gigabyte I only...
Thanks for replying y'all, I appreciate you taking the time out. First of all, this HD is brand new, purchased by me last month. Came sealed with a creation date of early August. Also, on the tools front, I've only used FDisk and then resorted to Western Digital's tools once this failed. In...
I'm hoping someone here can help me; I'm building myself a PC for the first time and have hit a stumbling block. I have installed the essential elements in the case to get the PC running: motherboard, CD Rom, PSU, Floppy disk drive, memory, GFX card and added a new keyboard and mouse. I have...
